As mobile phones have moved forwards in recent years, we have seen some fantastic apps hit the relevant stores. For example, many games have become a staple in the smartphone world as have many social media apps. Included in this list, the YouTube app. However, there are a couple of downfalls to the YouTube app in that you cannot lock your phone whilst on it nor can you watch videos offline. As a potential solution to this problem, we did see an app called ‘PlayTube’.
For many, this was a fantastic option because it allowed videos to be cached so that videos could be watched offline. After caching certain music videos, for example, playlists could be created without the need for an internet connection. However, since an update a couple of years ago removing the caching feature, the app quickly went downhill and was eventually pulled from the store.
Currently, there are still thousands of people searching the web for PlayTube but it is no longer available in any store in any form. As mentioned, the developers of the app were forced to remove the caching feature because it went against some very key policies of the stores. After this happened, the support in the app decreased because this was one of the main reasons why people chose this one over any of the others. Soon after, the app was forced to close due to lack of interest and for breaking the policies put in place by the various stores.
As we quickly move towards 2017, it looks like we may have reached the end of the road for apps of this kind because Apple, Google, and all the other store holders are now quick off the mark when it comes to removing them. Whenever an app remotely similar to PlayTube goes onto the store, everybody knows that it is only a matter of time before it gets pulled because it breaks certain rules and regulations.
With this information in mind, it seems as though the best solution is to choose YouTube to MP3 downloaders. For many sites, all you have to do is paste the link of a video into the search bar and it will download as an MP3 for you to listen to whenever and wherever you wish!
